Srinagar, Sep 22 (KNO): The government has decided to relocate the Government High School Wussan Kangan, as its existing premises fall within the proposed alignment for four-laning of the National Highway, the Legislative Assembly was informed.
The issue was raised by Kangan MLA Mian Mehar Ali through an unstarred question, seeking details about the safety concerns arising from the school’s location alongside the National Highway and the steps being taken for its relocation.
In its reply, the School Education Department, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the Government High School, Wussan Kangan, is situated alongside the National Highway. It, however, said that all necessary safety measures have been taken to ensure the safety and security of students and staff and to protect their lives.
The government confirmed that the existing school premises/structure falls within the proposed alignment for four-laning of the National Highway.
It said a suitable piece of Kacharie land measuring 05 kanals and 04 marlas has been identified in the vicinity for construction of a new school building.
The department further said a decision has been taken at the District Administration level to relocate the school, while construction of a double-storey school building at the identified site has been proposed under SASCI.
Besides, construction of an Additional Classroom (ACR), Headmaster’s Room, Boundary Wall and Library Room is under execution during the current financial year under the Samagra Shiksha Plan, the government said.
